2023 Afcon: It is a difficult competition but we want to win it - Egypt coach Rui Vitória

In the run-up to the highly anticipated 2023 African Cup of Nations (Afcon), Egypt's head coach, Rui Vitória, expressed the team's determination to emerge victorious in what he acknowledges as a challenging competition.

In an exclusive interview with French news outlet Onze Mondial, Vitória laid out Egypt's aspirations.

With just three days remaining before the official launch of the tournament, Vitória provided insights into the team's mindset and readiness. He highlighted Egypt's earnest desire to clinch the coveted title, placing them in the same league of ambition as every other formidable team vying for glory.

"Egypt is part of this group of favorites, we can’t hide it. But Africa is made up of very high level selections. The continent's main selections see their players play in the 5 major world championships. This is a reality," said Rui Vitória.

"Of course we want to win it. But I'm rational, we have a developing team. We are all confident, knowing that it is a difficult competition," he added.

In a recent friendly against Tanzania, Egypt showcased their prowess, securing a convincing 2-0 victory.

Egypt finds itself placed in Group B alongside formidable opponents Ghana, Mozambique, and Cape Verde.
