Austria's centre-back Kevin Danso (25) found himself unwittingly involved in an incident where Kylian Mbappé (25) sustained a broken nose during a clash between their teams.

The unfortunate collision occurred as Mbappé headed into Danso's shoulder while attacking a corner.

Prompt medical attention was signaled by Austria's goalkeeper, Patrick Pentz, as Mbappé lay on the ground with a bleeding nose.

Subsequently, Mbappé was substituted and taken to hospital for scans, which confirmed a fracture but ruled out the need for surgery, alleviating initial concerns.

Despite the positive diagnosis, there are worries that Mbappé might not return to play until the quarter-final stage of Euro 2024, as reported by RTL France.

Such a potential absence would be a significant setback for the French national team.

Following France's 1-0 victory, Danso took to social media to express his regrets over the incident.

"To the French supporters: I deeply regret that Kylian Mbappé was injured in our collision. I wish him a swift recovery and hope to see him back on the field soon," the Lens defender posted.

Austria's next match is against Poland on Friday at the Olympiastadion Berlin.
