The match, which took place on Tuesday evening at the Cologne Stadium, saw both teams struggle to create clear-cut chances, resulting in a stalemate.

Mainoo, who was brought on in the 46th minute to replace Conor Gallagher, acknowledged Slovenia's defensive tactics and their ability to maintain possession. "Slovenia sat deep and are a good side on the ball," he said. "But I think we have the quality to break these teams down as the levels get higher the deeper we go into the tournament."

Throughout the game, England dominated possession, particularly in the second half. However, Slovenia remained resolute in defense, frustrating England's attempts to find a breakthrough. The closest England came to scoring was a header by John Stones, which was cleared off the line by Benjamin Sesko.

Despite the goalless draw, England finished at the top of Group C with five points, securing their place in the knockout stages of the tournament.
