AC Milan missed out on a chance to go top of Serie A on Sunday, losing 3-1 at home to Sassuolo, allowing Napoli to go clear at the top.

Sassuolo came back from a 21st-minute header by Alessio Romagnoli to win at the San Siro thanks to a spectacular Gianluca Scamacca strike, an own goal by Simon Kjaer, and a solo effort by Domenico Berardi.

Milan are tied on 32 points with league leaders Napoli, who play Lazio in Sunday's late encounter. Romagnoli concluded a terrible afternoon by receiving a straight red card for knocking out Gregoire Defrel.

After two consecutive league defeats for Milan, local rivals Inter Milan are currently only a point behind in third place, with Atalanta three points behind after overcoming Juventus in Turin on Sunday.
