WAFU B U17 Championship: Nigeria beat Ghana’s Black Starlets to win third place

The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria have won third place at the WAFU Zone B U17 Championship following a 3-2 win over the Black Starlets of Ghana.

The two youth national teams of the West African countries locked horns today to fight for third place after missing out on a place in the finals.

In a game played at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, Nigeria had control of the game in the early parts of the first half and scored to take an early lead.

After battling to find their rhythm, the Black Starlets equalized to restore parity in the 19th minute thanks to a strike from Harve Gbafa.

The player netted his second of the evening in the 28th minute to give Ghana a 2-1 lead.

However, late in the first half, Nigeria’s golden eaglets scored to force the first half to end in a 2-2 stalemate.

In the second half, both national teams fought for the victory but it was Nigeria that scored thanks to a strike from Abdulmuiz Adeleke to earn a 3-2 win to win third place at the WAFU Zone B U17 Championship.

The Black Starlets can only settle for fourth place.
