Senegal brushed aside Gambia with a resounding 3-0 victory on Monday afternoon to kick off their defense of the Africa Cup of Nations trophy.

The Teranga Lions at the last edition of the AFCON in Cameroon defeated Egypt on penalties in the final to lift the enviable trophy.

Having qualified for the 2023 edition of the AFCON, Senegal is now aiming to win the tournament back-to-back.

Today at Stade de Yamoussoukro, Senegal locked horns with Gambia in the first Group C match of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

Following a very explosive start to the game, the defending champions scored as early as the 4th minute when Pape Gueye equalised after an assist from captain Sadio Mane.

That goal separated the two teams but Gambia suffered a blow in injury time when Ebou Adams was red-carded.

Taking advantage of the numerical advantage, Senegal scored twice in the second half with all goals coming from talented youngster Lamine Camara.

The win is a dream start for the Teranga Lions who will feel confident heading into the next game in Group C.
