20225 Africa Cup of Nations: Abdul Mumin was unlucky – Otto Addo after blunder in Angola defeat

Ghana coach Otto Addo has jumped to the defense of defender Abdul Mumin after causing the Black Stars narrow defeat to Angola in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Black Stars succumbed to a 1-0 defeat at the Baba Yara Stadium on Thursday evening, courtesy Milson’s injury time goal.

Felício Milson capitalized on Mumin’s error to fire home the winning goal in stoppage time for the Palancas Negras.

The loss at Baba Yara Stadium broke a remarkable 25-year unbeaten streak for the Black Stars in the Ashanti Regional capital, a venue where they had not lost since February 2000.

Quizzed if there was a problem in defense and midfield, Otto Addo said, “No, because the quality is there. I think even though we lost I saw that the quality is there, Mumin was unlucky that he couldn't clear the ball at the end but he made some mistakes before so it's not only him”

“The grass is also not that good but besides that he made a really, really good game and sent a lot of good balls in between the line, won a lot of duels so you know they're young boys and I know they will develop and surely we will have to learn all of this to be more clinical and at least to get a point at least out of this match” he said.

The Black Stars will travel to face Niger in their second group game at Berkane, Morocco on Monday, September 9, 2024.

Ghana are currently third in group F following defeat in their opening game of the qualifiers.
