2023 Afcon: DR Congo announces final squad for the tournament

Published on: 27 December 2023

Sébastien Desabre, the coach of the DR Congo national football team, unveiled the final squad for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).

The announcement was made by the Congolese Football Federation (Fecofa) on Wednesday, showcasing a meticulously selected list of 24 players.

French tactician Sébastien Desabre, adhering to the Confederation of African Football's (CAF) guidelines allowing for a squad of 27 players, opted for a more streamlined squad.

Notably, Desabre's selection strategy took a surprising turn as he excluded some familiar faces from the squad. Among the notable omissions are Aldo Kalulu and Glody Lilepo, along with Jackson Muleka and Vital Nsimba, who have been regulars in previous line-ups.

North African powerhouse, Morocco, has been paired alongside DR Congo and Zambia in Group F of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The three will have Tanzania, who have been away from the tournament in the last edition, complete their group. Tanzania will now be playing in their third-ever AFCON in history.

The 2023 Afcon will be held in Ivory Coast from January 13 to February 11, 2024.
