Former head coach of the Ghana male senior national team, James Kwesi Appiah is backing the team to excel at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

After three defeats in the last five matches of the Black Stars, Ghanaians are not confident the national team will impress at the AFCON in Ivory Coast.

But for coach James Kwesi Appiah, there’s really no cause for alarm. According to him, the Black Stars do shine when there is no hope.

Speaking to Joy Sports, the experienced tactician said the Black Stars can do well to reach the final of the 2023 AFCON.

“You see, sometimes when Ghanaians underrate the team, that is when the team surprises Ghana. And it’s happened so many times. Looking at the quality of the players, I think they can perform very well. I believe they can get to the final,” Coach Kwesi Appiah said.

Ghana has since Tuesday been training in Kumasi to prepare for the 2023 AFCON.

Before traveling to Ivory Coast for the tournament, Ghana will play a friendly match against Namibia on Monday, January 8.
