2023 Africa Cup of Nations: Mohammed Kudus’s brace not enough as mistakes cost Ghana in 2-2 draw with Egypt

Ghana has been forced to settle for a 2-2 draw against Egypt after costly mistakes in crucial moments.

This meant even a fantastic brace from Mohammed Kudus could not lead Ghana to secure what would have been a delightful victory.

The Black Stars of Ghana locked horns with the Pharaohs of Egypt today in their second Group B match of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

In the game today, both national teams set up strong in their bid to fight for all three points.

The early exchanges saw Egypt come out on top as the Pharaohs enjoyed the lion’s share of possession.

However, late in the first half, Egypt lost captain and star man Mohammed Salah to injury.

In injury time, Ghana star Mohammed Kudus scored with a thunderbolt strike to take the Black Stars into the break with a narrow lead.

After recess, Mohammed Kudus scored to make it a brace after Egypt had earlier equalised to restore parity.

Thanks to goals from Omar Marmoush and Mostafa Mohamed, Egypt managed to come from behind twice to hold Ghana to a 2-2 draw.

Up next for Ghana, the Black Stars will play against Mozambique in a must-win game on Monday, January 22.
