Africa’s highest-ranked country, Morocco flexed their muscles on Wednesday evening to thump Tanzania 3-0 in their first match at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

Nicknamed the Atlas Lions, Morocco is regarded as one of the favourites to lift the AFCON trophy in Ivory Coast.

Today, the North African country locked horns with Tanzania in a Group F encounter of the tournament.

In a game played at the Laurent Pokou Stadium, Morocco dominated the proceedings throughout the 90 minutes.

Courtesy of their good attacking play, Morocco led at halftime thanks to a strike by defender Romain Saiss.

After the first half break, Morocco increased the tempo of the play and put more pressure on the opponent.

Tanzania could not stay calm amid the storm and crumbled in the 70th minute when Novatus Dismas was shown the red card.

Making good use of the numerical advantage, Morocco scored two additional goals through strikes from Azzedine Ounahi and Youssef En-Nesyri.

With Tanzania unable to find a solution for Morocco, they succumbed to a 3-0 defeat at the end of the 90 minutes.

Later tonight, DR Congo will lock horns with Zambia in the second Group F match at the 2023 AFCON.
