The Super Eagles of Nigeria stunned host nation Cote d’Ivoire on Thursday evening to secure a narrow 1-0 win.

The hosts went into today’s Group A clash at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament on the back of a convincing 2-0 win over Guinea-Bissau in the opening game.

For Nigeria, they were held to a 1-1 draw by Equatorial Guinea in the first game of the tournament.

Today, the Super Eagles locked horns with the Elephants keen on making amends to push for early qualification to the knockout stage of the 2023 AFCON.

After a spirited performance at Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara, Nigeria managed to grab all three points.

It was all thanks to a penalty kick converted by defender William Troost-Ekong in the second half.

Despite the efforts of the Ivorians, there was no way past the Nigerians.

The victory silenced the Ivorian fans in the Stadium with Nigeria heading into the final group game without pressure.
