2025 AFCON Qualifiers: We will need the fans against Angola – Ghana coach Otto Addo

Published on: 05 September 2024

Ghana coach Otto Addo is advocating for a massive support for the Black Stars ahead of their crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola.

The Black Stars are back to Kumasi to open their 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium on Thursday at 16:00 GMT.

The Palancas Negras impressed earlier this year by reaching the quarter-finals of AFCON 2023, while Ghana suffered a disappointing group stage exit.

And Otto Addo speaking ahead of the game eulogized the fans for the continued support for the national team whiles he rallies support for the Angola showdown.

“Yeah, to be honest I'm not concerned. Kumasi fans in my time never let us down. The last game we were 2-1 behind against Central African Republic and they supported us all the way”

“So, I don't worry, they are always supportive, they help us and really we will need them tomorrow. They could suggest for me, keep it up what they are doing and it's very, very helpful. They are like our 12th player and we love to play in Kumasi” he added.

Following this, the team will travel to Berkane, Morocco for their second Group F game against Niger on September 9.

Ghana are aiming to start the qualifiers on a good note as they seek to secure qualification to the CAF’s biggest competition on the continent.

The Black Stars cannot afford to drop points on home turf following Sudan’s opening day win over Niger.

Coach Kwesi Appiah led Sudan to beat Niger 1-0 and are currently on top of Group F.
