Sudan head coach Kwesi Appiah extended his impressive streak with the Falcons of Jediane by securing a vital 1-0 victory over Niger in their opening match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

In the Group F opener, Sudan made a strong debut and earned all three points thanks to Abobaker Mamoun Eisa's goal in the 51st minute.

This win places Sudan at the top of the group standings for at least 24 hours, pending the result of Thursday's clash between Ghana and Angola.

Kwesi Appiah’s squad, aiming to qualify for the tournament in Morocco after missing the previous edition in Ivory Coast, has made a promising start. The Falcons of Jediane had been eliminated in the group stage during the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon, and Appiah hopes this victory will pave the way for a successful campaign.

Next, Appiah will face his former team, the Black Stars, in upcoming matches. Before that, Sudan will play Angola in their second qualifier.

Since his appointment, James Kwesi Appiah has maintained an unbeaten record in competitive matches with Sudan.

In his last five competitive games, including three World Cup qualifiers, he has secured four wins and one draw, demonstrating his positive impact on the team.
