Published on: 05 June 2024

Mali will host Ghana on Thursday, June 6, in one of several games to be played in the African qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The clash between the Eagles and the Black Stars is a fixture in Round 3 of the qualification games in Group I.

Ahead of the encounter, Footballghana previews the game to assess the form, head-to-head, as well as the current group standings among other things.

Form:

The host Mali has won both of their last two matches played in all competitions. In the team’s last game, they beat Nigeria 2-0 in a friendly match in the March international break.

A look at Mali’s last five matches will confirm that the Eagles are enjoying good form.

In that period, they won three matches, lost one and drew the other game.

On the back of the two wins in the last two matches, Mali will fancy their chances in the game against Ghana on Thursday.

Ghana heads into the match against Mali enduring one of the team’s worst forms in history.

The Black Stars are winless in their last five matches having drawn three times and lost twice in that period.

Regardless, the Black Stars cannot be ruled out ahead of the Mali showdown.

Head-to-head:

Matches between Mali and Ghana in the past have been very tough. In the last five matches played between the two national teams, Mali boasts of two wins, the same as Ghana, with the only draw in that period coming in 2015.

With home advantage, Mali would play to win on Thursday to get the edge over Ghana.

Group I standings:

Mali finds themselves in a better position in the Group I standings ahead of the game against Ghana.

With one win and one draw in the first two matches of the qualifiers, the Eagles are second in the table with four points.

Ghana on the other is fourth in the Group I table with just three points from the first two matches.

Match details:

The match between Mali and Ghana will be played in Bamako at Stade du 26 Mars.

The match is scheduled to kick off at 7 pm.
