Anderlecht CEO Jesper Fredberg has recently discussed the contract situation and fitness concerns of Ghanaian midfielder Majeed Ashimeru.

Fredberg acknowledges Ashimeru's unique playing style, which he describes as "direct and vertical," but also expresses his frustration over the midfielder's frequent injuries.

"He has something that few players have: he plays football directly and vertically. Unfortunately, he is out of action too often," Fredberg said.

Ashimeru's contract with Anderlecht is set to expire at the end of next season, and the club is currently evaluating his situation.

"His contract expires at the end of next season and we are looking at his situation," he added.

The midfielder played 12 games in the Belgian Pro League this season.

Ashimeru was left out of the squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic due to injury.

The Black Stars are set to face Mali on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at the Stade du 26 Mars in Bamako in the third round of qualifying for the Canada, Mexico, and USA World Cup.
