Ghanaian football legend, Asamoah Gyan, has called on Ghanaians to exercise patience with the newly assembled Black Stars team as they prepare to face Mali and Central African Republic (CAR) in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The matches are scheduled to take place on June 6th in Bamako and June 10th in Kumasi, respectively.

The Black Stars have had a mixed start in Group I of the World Cup qualifiers, with one win and one loss in their first two matches. Gyan, however, believes that the team has a bright future and can potentially win the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).

Speaking in an interview with Peace FM, monitored by Footballghana.com, Gyan said, "If we have patience with them, the bar the other generation has raised, we have to know that this is a different generation that we are building. So we have to give ourselves let's say a five-year plan. We can be able to win Afcon, we can, but if we go now and win, I think it is a bonus because this is a new team we are building."

Gyan also emphasized the importance of building and nurturing the team, adding that the players are young, talented, and have the potential to achieve great things. "And if you look at the players, it is obvious they have a future, and they are young. They can do anything, so let's have patience with them. I think everything will be fine if we give them patience and we build the team," he concluded.
