Attacker Francis Andy Kumi explains why he chose Medeama over Hearts of Oak

Striker Francis Andy Kumi has explained why he joined Medeama at the expense of Hearts of Oak in the ongoing transfer window.

The former Asante Kotoko attacker came close to joining the Phobians but the Yellow and Mauve hijacked the move to secure the services of the highly-profiled striker.

He penned a two-year deal with the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League champions and is expected to play a huge role for the club as they aim to make impact in the new season.

Kumi was in action when Medeama defeated Asante Kotoko 2-1 in the inaugural match at the newly constructed TnA Stadium last Friday.

Speaking to Kessben FM, as followed by Footballghana.com, the enterprising attacker confirmed Hearts of Oak’s approach but opted to join Medeama.

“Hearts of Oak had discussions with my agent but I chose Medeama. Joining Medeama doesn’t mean Hearts of Oak is not a good club. It was my personal decision to join Medeama” he said.

Asked if he swerved Hearts of Oak because of pressure, he said, “I have been able to play for Kotoko so I think I can equally play for Hearts of Oak very simple”

Kumi's previous stint saw him score nine goals for Kotoku Royals in the 2022-23 Ghana Premier League season before moving to Serbian side FK Radniki Nis.

Despite his team's relegation, Kumi’s performance stood out, establishing him as the club’s top scorer.

After a brief period with OFK Vrsac in Serbia last term, Kumi returns to the Ghana Premier League as a free agent.

Kumi had a short spell at Bechem United when he left Kotoko in August 2022 before signing for Royals in January 2023.
