Coach Basigi reveals Starting XI for Germany friendly

Head Coach of the Black Queens Yussif Basigi has named his women set to come up against Germany in an international friendly tonight at 6pm.

The Black Queens who will be captained by Elizabeth Addo, are undefeated in 14 international matches (seven victories, seven draws), and have won all of their last four. Their last defeat was a 1-0 against Algeria at the Africa Cup of Nations on 12th October 2014.

It is the first encounter between Ghana and Germany in the history of women’s football.

The Germany women’s team are well under way with their preparation for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and will use tge game against Ghana in Paderborn to trim the rough edges. It is not only the last friendly before their journey to Brazil, but the game at the Benteler-Arena will also be head coach Silvia Neid’s last home game before she is replaced by Steffi Jones.

Ghana missed out on qualification for the Olympic Games in Rio. After success against Egypt, the Black Queens lost to Cameroon in the third round of African qualification. Cameroon then went on to lose against Zimbabwe in the last round, who will face Germany in the Group stage in Brazil

Ghana have contested two internationals so far this year – in April, the team beat Tunisia in qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations, and secured their ticket to the tournament.

Germany are looking for their 125th victory on home soil. In 160 international matches in Germany, there have been 124 wins, 20 draws and 16 defeats, with 552 goals scored and 102 conceded.

Germany have won eight of their last ten internationals since the 2015 World Cup (one draw, one defeat), with a record of 34 goals scored to just three conceded. Since losing the World Cup quarter-final to Japan (1-0 after extra-time) in July 2011, the Germany team have lost only one of 23 home internationals. Their 23rd victory could follow in Paderborn.
