President Akufo-Addo has hailed the maiden Democracy Cup match initiative by Parliament as an excellent initiative.
The Democracy Cup is scheduled to be played on Wednesday at the Accra Sports Stadium in commemoration of 30 years of Parliamentary Democracy under the Fourth Republic.
Speaking after the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin led a contingent to pay a courtesy call on him last Friday ahead of the fixture, Akufo-Addo commended Parliament for the initiative.
“The commitment that you have made to use it as a vehicle for encouraging popular support for democratic governance in Ghana is an excellent initiative.You are to be congratulated.
“But just merely to reiterate my wholehearted support for this initiative, my congratulations to you for thinking up the idea, and that it's an idea that should last forever and ever and ever. We pray to God that it will be so.”
Parliamentarians will first take on former Black Stars players in a curtain raiser game before the game kicks off on Wednesday.
