Egypt's coach Rui Vitória faces harsh criticism ahead of 2023 Afcon

In the lead-up to the highly anticipated 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Egypt's national football team is grappling with a storm of controversy centered around their head coach, Rui Vitória.

The criticism comes from an unexpected source—Zaki Abdelfattah, the former Egyptian international goalkeeper and coach.

In an exclusive interview with Al-Shams TV channel, Abdelfattah didn't mince words when expressing his concerns about the man at the helm.

According to the former goalkeeper coach, Vitória is treading on shaky ground due to his perceived lack of international experience. Abdelfattah went so far as to brand the Portuguese tactician as "incompetent," delivering a scathing assessment of his performance as the leader of Egypt's national team.

“I said it before, Rui Vitoria is a good manager, but he has no experience at international level and he came to try something new at our expense,” Abdelfattah said.

“Vitoria is inexperienced. I don't think it's the right approach to make plans and tie someone like him to a four-year contract, because he clearly doesn't have the same vision as the association,” he added.

The record winners are in Group B with Ghana, Mozambique, and Cape Verde.
