Erik ten Hag put so much trust in me to play – Kobbie Mainoo

Man United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has revealed that the club’s manager, Erik ten Hag, puts so much trust in him to perform.

Mainoo had a first break through season with the Red Devils and is one of the shinning lights for the club in a difficult season.

His performances were rewarded with an England call-up for the Euros in Germany where he made his major tournament debut for the Three Lions.

He was asked about ten Hag’s impact on his game ahead of their game against Denmark on Thursday after coming off the bench against Serbia in their first game.

"Happy to be building with him, got two trophies hopefully there's more to come. Peace of mind to know what manager we have when we return.

"I'm so grateful for him, he put so much trust in me to play in the team. I can't thank him enough."

The 19-year-old’s rise has been one of the stories of the season. In a campaign that offered little hope until the FA Cup final, he provided much for United fans around the world to cling to.

Mainoo saved his most important goal for last, however, as he slotted in United’s second goal in the FA Cup final against Manchester City, winning the famous old tournament in his debut season, despite the cacophony of issues around the club.
