Ghana defender, Gideon Mensah has disclosed that there is a lot of pressure that comes with playing for the Black Stars.

The left-back was in action for Ghana on Sunday night when the Black Stars lost 2-1 to Cape Verde in their first match of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

Speaking to 3sports in an interview, Gideon Mensah said the Black Stars did not want to start the AFCON on a losing note.

He said the team will prepare for the next game knowing that there is pressure from the huge expectations from every Ghanaian expecting a win and nothing else.

“This is not how we wanted to start the tournament. We have another game and we can make ourselves proud.

“We play for a country where everyone is expecting us to win every game. We’re going in with the same pressure and the same hunger,” Gideon Mensah said.

Up next for Ghana at the 2023 AFCON, the Black Stars will take on Egypt on Thursday, January 18.
