Former Black Stars goalkeeper, Owusu Mensah, has made a heartfelt appeal to Ghana's President, Nana Akufo Addo, to honor the promises made to the country's Afcon winning squads.
Mensah, who was part of the 1982 Afcon winning team, stressed that the plea was not just for the 1982 squad, but for all the teams that had brought Ghana four Afcon trophies.
Ghana clinched the 1982 tournament in a thrilling final against host Libya, which ended 1-1 after regular time. Ghana emerged victorious 7-6 on penalties at the 11th June Stadium in Tripoli. The historic win was secured by a goal from George Alhassan in the 35th minute, which was equalized by Ali Al-Beshari in the 70th minute. Alhassan, a Ghanaian forward, was also the top scorer in the tournament with four goals.
"It is not only 82, 63, 65, and 78 so four if you can do something for us this one we plead because if you promise and you don't deliver it is not good the bible is given against not fulfilling promises," Owusu Mensah told Ernest Bruce Smith Show on YouTube.
"Nana we plead because we are suffering our captain in 82 is dead, but he has a wife and children so Nana please do something for us we will be happy," he added.
