Former Ghana striker Baffour Gyan hopes Black Stars maintain momentum after two straight wins

Former Ghana international Baffour Gyan is hoping the Black Stars will maintain their winning run following back-to-back wins during the 2026 World Cup qualifying games against Mali and Central Africa Republic.

Ghana revived their qualification chances after securing back-to-back wins in the qualifiers in early June.

The Black Stars secured an important away win over Mali last Thursday in Bamako before returning to Kumasi to beat Central Africa Republic at the Baba Yara Stadium, making it two wins in a row.

This means the Black Stars have ended their winless run this year after going seven games without a win.

Speaking to Koforidua-based Swiit FM, Gyan said he is praying for consistency for the national team following recess success.

“We’ve won two games in a row, so let’s hope and pray for more victories. You can't take prayer out. It's very important. Having won two games, I hope the team maintains the winning run in subsequent games" he said.

The four-time Africa Champions are chasing their fifth qualification to the biggest soccer mundial.

Ghana are currently second on the 2026 World Cup qualifications standings, accumulating 9 points after four games in Group I.

The qualifying series for the World Cup will resume in March 2025.
