FIFA has confirmed that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) received over $260,000 for grass pitch maintenance in Ghana.

The funds were used for the "installation of boreholes and water tanks" to enhance pitch conditions.

According to FIFA’s recent email to JoySports, this support aimed to improve natural grass pitches at 80 venues across the country, benefiting both women's and youth football.

Despite this, there is growing concern about the state of these pitches, with many not appearing suitable for even Black Stars training sessions.

FIFA's email clarified that the support, totaling $267,273, helped ensure venues met minimum club licensing requirements.

“FIFA assisted the GFA in maintaining natural grass pitches at 80 match venues across Ghana,” a portion of the statement said. “This included the installation of boreholes and water tanks, ensuring that the venues met the minimum club licensing requirements. The total support amounted to $267,273.”

Three years ago, the GFA announced a borehole project funded by FIFA's Forward 1.0 programme to upgrade pitches for various leagues and regional football centers, aiming for year-round use.
