Ghana international Salis Abdul Samed has opened up on his relationship with former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan following his move to Sunderland.

The Black Stars midfielder joins the Black Cats on a season-long loan deal from French Ligue 1 club RC Lens.

Salis is hoping to help the Championship leaders achieve their target of returning to the English Premier League.

He becomes the latest Ghanaian player to join Sunderland after Asamoah Gyan and John Mensah.

Gyan became a household name at Sunderland following his swashbuckling performance for the club during his spell.

Asked about his relationship with Gyan, Salis stated, “He is someone who is really kind. I met him through a close pal who plays in Belgium. He sometimes comes to the national team camp to give us pep talks during matches”

“We sometimes talk on phone at our leisure time. For now, I don’t think he knows am here and if I should tell him, he will be very happy and maybe advise me about the club” he added.

Abdul Samed will miss Ghana's AFCON qualifiers against Angola and Niger due to fitness reasons.
