German-born Ghanaian defender Derrick Köhn has made a positive impression at SV Werder Bremen since his deadline-day signing.

His familiarity with German football, having previously played for Hamburger SV and Hannover 96, has helped ease his transition. However, Köhn may not start in Werder’s upcoming match against Mainz on matchday 3.

Werder Bremen head coach Ole Werner hinted that Köhn could be in contention for a starting role but suggested Felix Agu would likely be preferred for the left-back position. Agu has featured prominently in pre-season and delivered strong performances in recent games. "Felix has shown very good performances in the last few games," Werner said during a press conference on Friday.

While Agu is expected to start, Werner made it clear that the left-back position is still competitive. "Derrick is contributing well, it is a competition," the coach noted. Köhn will continue to push for a spot, knowing that his place in the team could still be secured with strong performances.
