GPL: Club owners will struggle to finance their clubs due to low stadium attendance – Asamoah Gyan

Former Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan believes club owners will struggle to finance their clubs because of low patronage of the Ghana Premier League.

The issue of low fan attendance at local league games has become a conversation for the past two seasons.

The Baba Yara Sports Stadium and the Accra Sports Stadium are the most affected. Both are struggling to attract fans because of the poor performances of Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak.

Speaking on the issue, the former Ghana captain was emphatic on the repercussions it will bring to clubs.

“Club owners will find it difficult to finance their clubs when there is low attendance at the stadium during GPL games,” the 38-year-old told Kumasi-based Pure FM.

“I will plead to corporate companies to help the domestic clubs. Also, will advise the clubs to have a youth side attached to their main teams.”

It looks like there won’t be an end to this soon as Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak have not improved in performances.
