Ghanaian giants Hearts of Oak have lifted the 2024 Gbese Mantse Homowo Charity Peace Cup beating Heart of Lions on penalties following a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

The Phobians came from behind to force the much-anticipated clash to penalties at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Hearts of Oak were handed an early scare after their former forward Kwadwo Obeng Jnr gave Lions the lead, just three minutes into the game. The Kpando-based club went to the halftime break with the advantage.

Putting on a stellar performance, the former Ghana Premier League champions pulled parity in the second half.

Mohammed Hussein fired home the needed equalizer just two minutes to full time. He connected from rebounded after Ransford Mensah's free kick went off the crossbar.

The Phobians went on to win the game on penalties to annex the trophy ahead of the new season. Hearts of Oak edged Lions 8-7 on penalties.

It is important to note that the Ga Gbese Mantse Nii Ayi-Bonte II and his royal entourage were present, where he made the kickoff for the highly competitive clash.
