Accra Hearts of Oak will kick off their 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season on Sunday against league newcomers Basake Holy Stars FC but will be without defender David Oppong Afrane.

The 21-year-old, who joined the Accra-based club in September 2023, has been plagued by injuries, which limited his involvement last season.

Despite a promising pre-season that included a trip to Togo and multiple friendly appearances, Afrane suffered another setback during a midweek friendly match against fellow league campaigners Dreams FC. Reports confirm that the former King Faisal player will not be available for selection in the season opener.

However, head coach Aboubakar Ouattara has several defensive options, including Michael Awuah Mensah, Konadu Yiadom, and Kelvin Osei Asibey, to fill the gap left by Afrane's absence.

Hearts of Oak will be hoping for a strong start to their campaign when they face Basake Holy Stars FC at 3:00 pm at the Accra Sports Stadium.
