Sammy Anim Addo, a member of the Homowo Cup organizing committee, has shed light on how the teams for this year's tournament were selected.
He clarified why Accra Great Olympics was not included, emphasizing that the choice of teams for an invitational cup is at the discretion of the organizers.
The Homowo Cup will see Accra Hearts of Oak facing Heart of Lions on Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium. Anim Addo hinted that the format might evolve in the future, possibly involving more teams and a final match.
"In an invitational cup you can choose any team at your own discretion remember Otumfou called ASEC to take on Asante Kotoko. It is not always mandatory to select specific teams last year it was suppose to be Hearts against Olympics and Oly did what they did," he told Peace FM as monitored by Footballghana.com
"This year some even suggested four teams two games so that there will be a final in all this is just the beginning. It happened that they wanted a team to play Hearts and the team that wanted to play wanted a tough opponent so Heart of Lions was paired for this edition and see how the edition will go so that is how it happened,"
Before the main game, selected colts teams will have the opportunity to showcase their talents in a curtain-raiser.
