I am ready to coach Hearts of Oak - Yaw Preko insists

Former Great Olympics coach, Yaw Preko has confirmed his willingness to take up the vacant Hearts of Oak coaching job.

Following the departure of Serbian coach Slavko Matic midway through last season, the Ghana Premier League side are yet to appoint a substantive trainer.

Yaw Preko was expected to be named as an assistant to Annor Walker who has surprisingly rejoined rivals Great Olympics ahead of the start of the new season.

While dismissing reports of him joining his former club, Preko admitted he was prepared for the job and would accept it if there was an official contact.

“I haven’t heard anything. Nobody has contacted me,” he told Ghanasportspage.com.

“I am ready because it is my job. If someone calls you for his job, you have to ask about what is good for him. if you can deliver then you can accept it but move on if you can’t deliver,” the former Medeama SC coach added.

Hearts of Oak kicked off the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season with Samuel Boadu but ended the campaign with David Ocloo as the interim coach following the sudden departure of Slavko Matic due to a poor run of results.

Yaw Preko, who played for the club between 1991 and 1992 before becoming an interim coach in 2016 following the departure of Kenichi Yatsuhashi, managed Great Olympics last season but was fired after a dismal run of results.

Meanwhile, Annor Walker has criticized the club’s method of contacting coaches, claiming an unethical approach to signing players before assigning them to a coach.
