Communications Director of Bechem United, Emmanuel Gyasi Atuahene has revealed that striker Hafiz Wontah Konkoni did not feature against Madagascar due to technical reasons.
The promising striker was handed a late call-up for the matchday five qualifiers of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The 23-year-old was part of a list of forwards that included Kwasi Okyere Wreidt, Andre Ayew and Jordan Ayew.
However, he wasn’t named in the match-day squad for the crucial game.
And according to Atuahene, Chris Hughton's decision not to feature the striker who scored 15 goals in the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season was due to technical reasons.
“Per the conversations that I had with the player (Hafiz Konkoni), it was purely because of technical reasons so I think it was a decision by the head coach (Chris Hughton) and then that was it,” Atuahene said.
Ghana drew 1-1 with Madagascar to miss out on booking a spot at next year’s AFCON in Cote D’Ivoire with a game to spare.
The Black Stars take on the Central African Republic next on September 4.
