Let's respect Otto Addo's decision to drop Andre Ayew from Black Stars squad - Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu

Former Black Stars midfielder, Emmanuel Agyemang Badu has implored that Otto Addo's decision to leave out Andre Ayew must be respected.

Prior to the matchday three and four games of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, the Le Havre attacker was left out of the 26-man squad for the games against Mali and Central African Republic (CAR).

Addo's decision to leave out the skipper for the national team attracted criticism from football fans.

However, Agyemang-Badu, who is a former U-20 World Cup winner says Otto Addo has been given the mandate and we must respect his decisions and judgements.

"Otto Addo explained why Andre Ayew was not in the squad but we don't if Andre will return to the squad in subsequent games," he told Asempa FM as monitored by Footballghana.com.

"Otto Addo has been given the mandate as the head coach of the Black Stars so his decision to drop Andre Ayew from the squad must be respected.

"Andre Ayew is still the captain of the team but Otto Addo has decided that he will not play these two games and we must respect that because if he fails, the head coach will be sacked so we must believe in the decisions and judgement of Otto Addo," he added.

Despite Andre Ayew's absence, Ghana recorded a hard-fought 2-1 win over the Eagles in Bamako before a thrilling 4-3 win against Wild Beasts at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Following the successive wins, the Black Stars now sit 2nd in Group I with nine points after four games.

The four-time African champions will resume their qualifying games in March 2025, where they play Chag and Madagascar.
