Real Tamale United (RTU) have been officially relegated from the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League following a 2-0 defeat to Asante Kotoko at the Naa Sheriga Sports Complex.

This loss marks the end of RTU's three-season stay in the league after gaining promotion in the 2020/21 season.

The match saw Peter Amidu score the opening goal close to the hour mark, putting Asante Kotoko in the lead. Bernard Somuah added a second goal four minutes from time, sealing the victory and ending Real Tamale United's tenure in the top flight.

With 31 points, RTU currently sits at the bottom of the league table, nine points below the safety zone, with only two matches remaining.

Even if they win the remaining two games, the ‘Pride of the North’ will not still move out of the drop zone.

Their upcoming fixtures include an outstanding game against Dreams FC, followed by their final match of the season against Great Olympics.

Asante Kotoko's victory propels them to 8th place in the league standings. In their last match of the season, they will face already relegated Bofoakwa Tano.

This defeat is a significant setback for Real Tamale United, who will now have to regroup and focus on their campaign in Division One for the upcoming season.
