Richard Ofori has never let the nation down – Chris Hughton praises Black Stars goalie

Ghana head coach, Chris Hughton has praised goalkeeper Richard Ofori for always doing his best for the national team.

Although the experienced shot-stopper is not the first choice at his club Orlando Pirates, he has been manning the post for the Black Stars in recent games.

Speaking on why Richard Ofori is still important to the Black Stars, Ghana coach Chris Hughton says it is because he has never let the nation down when it comes to making himself available for his country.

“Certainly over the years, the goalkeeping situation is a different and difficult one, sometimes you will have who is regular at his club, and sometimes you’ll have one who’s not such a regular but can do a fantastic job with the national team.

“These are the things we take into consideration as regards the qualities that Richard has. He’s a big personality and someone that I would like to think because I can only speak on a short space of time… but Dede [Ayew] can speak for a longer period, that Richard Ofori is someone who has never let the nation down as regards to availability and the job he’s done," Chris Hughton explained to the media ahead of Ghana’s game against Cape Verde.

Ghana plays Cape Verde today in Group B of the 2023 AFCON. The match will kick off at 8 pm.
