Former Fenerbache midfielder, Stephen Appiah, believes that the current Fenerbache team has the potential to compete next season, but only with some additional strengthening and the arrival of Jose Mourinho as the manager.

In an interview with Responsible Gambling, Appiah acknowledged that Galatasaray has a strong team and manager, but he insisted that Fenerbache, being the biggest team in Turkey, should always strive to be on top.

Despite losing the league this season, Appiah commended Fenerbache for their resilience and good fight.

"I mean it will be tough because Galatasaray have a very good team and a very good manager too but Fener is the biggest team in Turkey and that has to always be the case," he said.

"They lost the league this season but they put up a good fight so surely they’re not that far from it. They have Dzeko and Fred and the rest, so the team is very good with a few strengthening here and there and they will be able to at least compete and be in it for the long run," he added.

The former Ghana skipper, who made 60 appearances for Fenerbache between 2005 and 2008, was part of the team that won the 2006/07 Turkish Super League and the 2007 Turkish Super Cup.
