The Ghana U17 male national team nicknamed the Black Starlets are set to kick off the WAFU Zone B U17 Cup of Nations tournament today.

After weeks of preparations, the Black Starlets are primed to excel as the team eyes qualification to the TotalEnergies U17 Cup of Nations tournament.

Ghana has not qualified for the tournament in the last 7 years but coach Laryea Kingston is confident his talented squad will make it happen this time.

Speaking ahead of the start of the tournament, the coach said his boys are ready to deliver although there is pressure on the team.

“Preparations have been very good and from our last training, the boys are looking very good for the game.

“Yes, we’re under pressure to perform because in the last two editions, we have not been able to qualify. I know Ghanaians expect us to qualify and that puts some pressure on us.

“There is pressure on us but where we’ve taken the boys to and the preparations we have had, thanks to the FA, we’re ready,” Coach Laryea Kingston said as quoted on the Ghana FA website.

Ghana’s Black Starlets will play against the Young Elephants of Ivory Coast today in the opening match of the WAFU Zone B U17 Cup of Nations tournament.

The match will kick off at 4 pm at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
