We are confident Ivory Coast will organise 2023 AFCON - CAF boss Patrice Motsepe

The Confederation of African Football President, Patrice Motsepe says his outfit is confident Ivory Coast are in pole position to organise the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Ivory Coast is due to host the AFCON next year in June and July, just 18 months on from the last AFCON in Cameroon earlier this year.

The AFCON is reverting to the same mid-year slot in which the 2019 Cup of Nations in Egypt was held.

“We are confident that the AFCON you will organise here will be the best,” Motsepe said after meeting Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara in Abidjan.

“We are reassured by the different infrastructure that you have put in place to host this competition.

“I am satisfied with the progress made, even if there are still some problems to sort out.”

Ivory Coast are building or renovating six stadiums for the competition.

Ivory Coast reached the last 16 of the 2021 AFCON after they were knocked out by Egypt on penalties.
