Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia believes the government needs to bring in experts to manage pitches in Ghana to resolve the issue of poor playing surfaces.
The NPP flagbearer made this known during his interaction with the media over the weekend in Accra, responding to questions about the playing surfaces in Ghana.
Pitches used in the Ghana Premier League often appear yellowish on TV instead of the usual green.
“We need international standard pitches, and this is stated in the manifesto. I believe we need professional management for maintaining these pitches. We also need to train people and bring in experts in pitch maintenance.”
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia also cited the request made by Black Stars captain Thomas Partey during a visit to the team as a justification for the need to bring in experts to manage pitches.
“One of the problems we have is the lack of maintenance of our pitches. I met with the Black Stars in Kumasi before their last game there.
“When we met, the coach and the players were very clear about what they really needed.”
