Defender Isaac Afful has said he is delighted to have scored for FC Samartex 1996 against Victoria United in the reverse fixture of their 2024/25 CAF Champions League first preliminary round game.
The left-back scored the only goal on Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium as the Timber Giants completed the double over the Cameroonian side to progress 2-0 on aggregate.
In the first leg played in Cameroon a week earlier, Emmanuel Mamah also scored the only goal to give the Ghanaian champions the crucial first-leg advantage.
Speaking to the media after Sunday’s win, Isaac Afful said, “My happiness is so high. I am so excited. I have not even dreamed about it. You could see that when I scored the goal I did not know what to do. It gave me so much happiness.”
As their reward for winning the first preliminary round tie, FC Samartex will face Moroccan side Raja Club Athletic in the playoff round next month.
