In a thrilling encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium, Asante Kotoko emerged victorious in the first-ever Democracy Cup, defeating rivals Hearts of Oak and securing a coveted match against Major League Soccer's DC United in the United States.

Led by head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum, Kotoko fielded an exciting lineup, including several new signings. The team dominated the early stages of the game, with multiple scoring opportunities. A penalty awarded in the 30th minute provided the breakthrough, with seasoned midfielder Justice Blay converting confidently to give Kotoko the lead.

However, Hearts of Oak fought back in the second half, equalizing just five minutes after the restart through new signing Asamoah Boateng Afriyie's controversial header, which left goalkeeper Frederick Asare needing medical attention.

In the intense battle that followed, it was Kotoko who prevailed, with Peter Amidu scoring a stunning goal to win the game and secure the Democracy Cup title. As a reward for their triumph, Kotoko will travel to Washington to face DC United later this year.
