German tactician Bruno Labbadia has been appointed as the new head coach of the Nigeria national team with an immediate effect.

The 58-year-old trainer replaces Finidi George, who resigned from his role in June following an unimpressive run of results.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in a statement on Tuesday morning confirmed the appointment of Bruno Labbadia.

“The Nigeria Football Federation has announced that it has reached an agreement with German tactician, Bruno Labbadia, to become the Head Coach of Nigeria’s senior men’s national team, Super Eagles.”

"The NFF Executive Committee has approved the recommendation of its Technical and Development sub-committee to appoint Mr Bruno Labbadia as the Head Coach of the Super Eagles,” according to the federation’s General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi.

Labbadia becomes the 37th Head Coach of the Super Eagles after the resignation of former coach, Finidi George.

He is expected to the Super Eagles in the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers next month.

Nigeria struggled under Finidi George in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and are keen to turn things around under the new manager.
