Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kurt Okraku, has expressed concern over the negative impact of taxes on football-related items, stating that they are hindering the industry's development.
At the 30th Ordinary Congress of the GFA, held on August 26, 2024, at the Ghanaman Soccer Center of Excellence in Prampram, Okraku highlighted the financial burden caused by taxing imported or donated items intended for national teams and grassroots football development.
"The items imported by the GFA, or donated for use by the National Teams and for Grassroots Football development, have been taxed over the years," Okraku said.
"For a football industry that is already heavily resource-constrained, this practice is inimical to the development of the industry," he added.
The congress, which brought together football stakeholders from across the nation, also saw Kurt Okraku cut sod for new projects, including a gym, futsal arena, 40-bed hostel and swimming pool at the Soccer Center of Excellence.
