We competed very well against Ghana - Namibia coach Collin Benjamin

In a closely contested pre-Afcon friendly clash, Namibia's head coach, Collin Benjamin, expressed satisfaction with his team's performance against Ghana.

The encounter, held at the Baba Yara Stadium and ending in a goalless draw, showcased Namibia's competitive edge as they geared up for the impending 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).

The strategic timing of the friendly served dual purposes, offering Ghana a valuable opportunity to fine-tune their tactics for the upcoming tournament in Ivory Coast, kicking off on January 13. Meanwhile, Namibia, currently honing their skills in Ghana, utilized the match to fine-tune their strategies and build on the experience gained from a prior friendly against Legon Cities, a Ghana Premier League side.

“My team did a very good game. They did it as a collective, a lot of energy, a lot of enthusiasm, a lot of conviction and am just proud of the team. In the first half, I think we created really good chances that we could even go 2-0 in front," he said.

“I think second half also the tempo Ghana took it even further but I think that we contained them and the two, three chances that we also had that makes me just proud to be the coach of this team," he added.

With eyes now firmly set on the 2023 Afcon, Namibia will shift its focus to the tournament opener against Tunisia on January 16, 2024, in Ivory Coast.
