Morocco defeated Spain in the World Cup round of 16 after drawing 0-0 and winning 3-0 in a penalty shootout, and the streets of both towns were instantly decorated in jubilation.

Soccer supporters and the general public came to the main roads in both Marrakech and Rabat to experience an incredible amount of delight.

The Moroccans were eliminated in the group stages in Mexico 1970, the United States in 1994, France in 1998, and Russia in 2018, while they were ousted in the round of 16 of Mexico in 1986, after being drawn in a difficult and surprise group.

That squad, captained by Brazilian José Faria, drew 0-0 with Poland and England before defeating Portugal 3-1 in the series. In the round of 16, they were defeated 1-0 by West Germany, who scored in the 87th minute through Lothar Matthaus.

Walid Regragui's men will play the quarterfinals next Saturday at 12 noon, hoping to continue creating history and with the confidence of not conceding a goal in their three games against European opponents: 0-0 against Croatia, 2-0 against Belgium, and 0-0 against Spain. However, they defeated Canada 2-1.
