Arsenal midfield maestro, Thomas Partey is expected to lead Ghana as captain in the first round of the qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

Ghana in early September will face off with Angola and Niger in the first two games in the qualifiers for the next edition of the AFCON to be hosted in Morocco.

Ahead of the two important matches, Coach Otto Addo will name his Ghana squad for the upcoming games at a press conference in the Conference Room of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) today.

According to sources, the captain of the Black Stars, Andre Ayew did not make it into the squad that will be announced by Otto Addo today.

Should it be confirmed by coach Otto Addo, it would mean deputy captain Thomas Partey would lead Ghana into the games against Angola and Niger next month as the team’s captain.

The matches against Angola and Niger would be played on September 5 and 9 respectively.
