Baba Rahman reluctant for Black Stars return – Otto Addo

Ghana coach Otto Addo says defender Baba Abdul Rahman is reluctant to make a return to the Black Stars team.

Rahman was notably absent from the roster for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic, where Ghana recorded a back-to-back wins to revive their qualification chances.

The former Chelsea defender had previously opted out of national team duties before the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations to concentrate on his club commitments.

However, Otto Addo unveiling his squad for the 2025 AFCON qualifying games against Angola and Niger disclosed Baba Rahman is reluctant to return to the national team.

“Baba Rahman has family, and the last time, I appealed that the media should tone down, but he is reluctant to come because of what happened the last time, but the door is still open for his return” he said at the press conference.

Notable players like Thomas Partey, Mohammed Kudus, Antoine Semenyo, Mohammed Salisu, Jordan Ayew and others have all been named in the squad.

Captain, Andre Ayew, who is currently a free agent has for the second time being overlooked by the technical handlers of the team for the second time running.

The Black Stars will face Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium on September 5 before travelling to take on Niger in Morocco on September 9.

The AFCON qualifiers are crucial for the Black Stars, who are seeking to secure a spot in the tournament.

It is important to note that the two top countries from each group will secure automatic qualification to the CAF biggest competition on the continent.
