CAF Champions League: We need government support to not be just participants - Medeama President

Medeama president Moses Armah has called for the support of government so they can perform well in Africa and not be just participants in the 2023/24 CAF Champions League.

Based in Tarkwa, they recently achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first Ghanaian club since 2012 to secure qualification for the group stage of this continental competition, clinching a 4-3 aggregate victory against Guinean side Horoya.

Their initial 3-1 triumph at the Cape Coast Stadium proved pivotal in advancing the Ghana Premier League champions, despite a 2-1 loss in Conakry.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Armah emphasized the team's aspirations to transcend mere participation in the tournament.

"We don't want to be mere participants in this competition hence our call for government and corporate Ghana to come to our aid," he said.

"Our experience in participating in the CAF club competitions has taught us that you need not less than $150,000 to play in a game. For example, our two games before qualification cost us $300,000.

"We plead that the government and corporate Ghana to come to our aid as we plan to take Africa by storm."
